A few years ago, Creative Time produced an installation by Mike Nelson on Delancy and Essex in the old Essex Street Market building. The installation,
Psychic Vacuum, is still one of the most amazing installations I've seen. Before it was taken down, I was one of a few other photographers who attempted to document Psychic Vacuum. There were endless details and you were never sure what was already there or intentionally placed....it seemed impossible to show in images or otherwise. But Brenden Griffiths, who just left Creative Time for Yale, designed a beautiful book of cover-to-cover images from the installation and fold-out pages with sketches from the artist and essays from the curators, Nato Thompson and Peter Eleey.
