Freaks and Geeks is owning my life.

I bought a new 35mm camera today, I just completed my order for a super 8 camera, and tomorrow I'm placing an order for my very own 4x5 Toyo Field camera. I have had a crazy resurgance of black and white images....the contrast and grain and what the hell happened to my obsession with color? I still want a holga with a flash, a better printer, a new laptop, lights, endless supplies of film, and the energy and motivation to get off my ass and shoot non-stop. Crits happened all day thursday and friday. Mine went well, lots of good ideas thrown around. No one called me a racist and no one yelled so I can safetly say it all went much better than summer. Europe or Mexico? I'll see one or both soon. Maybe for visit or for a long, long stay.

I finally feel like I have a good group of friends set up in New York. Surprisingly (or maybe not) they are pretty much all from Florida...with a few other states here and there creeping in. I am enjoying NY in a way I never expected and all that snow I've been dreading/wishing for made a brief cameo last week when it snowed for all of 5 minutes. Then two days later it was 70 degrees. That drama I resolved to leave in 2006 is trying to creep back in but I'm not letting it. I miss my Kims. I need girl friends here.

New Year's Eve, 2006

New Year's Eve 2006
This is the only picture we took, and for some reason didn't bother to re-take it even after we saw that the exposure was sliiiiiiiiightly off. I love this girl.

Laker

Laker
My Dad just called and told me they had to put my dog to sleep this morning. I guess everyone kind of says their dog was "part of the family," but he really was. We got him when I was in 7th grade for Christmas and I've still never met a dog that was smarter than he was. We knew he had cancer for the past month and I got to say bye to him when I was down for Christmas a few weeks ago. He did so good while I was visiting and didn't seem sick at all, and I got to take him out for a swim in the lake one last time. He got pretty bad after my brother and I left and by yesterday he couldn't even move his legs. When they put him down today, my dad said he could barely move anything but still was able to wag his tail. Me, my brother, and mostly my dad will miss him.

hostel life

We're back to running a hostel in our apartment. I hijacked Lindsay's car in Florida the day after xmas and brought her and Jessi back to Brooklyn with me. Jessi left and Wesley took her place so it's me and two guests...then Chris Taylor brought carloads full of people to bring the population of 1055 Dean Street to a lovely 11 people. One bathroom. Yesterday was the only hot shower I've had since Florida. Tessa, be glad you're missing this...

New Year's in NYC...Ludlow, Living Room, breaking into apartment buildings to crash parties on roof tops and lame parties on fourth floors, pujabi, rain, and getting home "early. "

2006 Wrap-Up...applied, got in, and started graduate school, moved to Brooklyn, broke someone's heart, lost a group of friends and made some new ones, had a pretty good summer riding bikes and trying to watch movies, started a photo project that I'm really excited about, had most of my favorite people visit up here, swore off boys only to meet a really amazing one, started my sleeve....and that brings us to the end. There was a lot I left out...not because I don't care but I can't continue this cycle, it gets us nowhere. The best thing for everyone is to move on and get better in our own ways. I hope your year this year is better and I always wish you nothing but the best. I hope you understand that I only have good intentions and always have. I hope 2007 will mean no more laziness, no more drama, making amazing photos, and travel, travel, travel.
