Early Morning (sort of) Postings

Where has this week gone?? I finally sold my car, but when they went to pick it up it was being an asshole so they had to get it repaired and I had to accept less and less money for it. My ipod home player broke after owning it for less than 6 god damn months so now I have to listen to music on my stupid computer speakers. I haven't gotten shit done this week. Blah blah blah.

In other news....

There is a very big possibility that I may be going on a bit of an adventure next month. After shooting a wedding in Florida the second week of October I think I'm staying around and shooting for my latest project. Then there is another possibility of furthering that adventure and driving back up to NY and stopping in several cities along the way to shoot for the same project. This is a lot to plan in two weeks.

Upcoming visitors to the amazing NY and Brooklyn...
New Mexican Disaster Squad (unfortunately it's with Less Than Jake and Catch 22)
Chris Conrad
Kim Kathleen Kuhn
Christina Poindexter
Clarissa and Luis
The Chad
Little Kelly
Maybe Jeremy #1

Very excited. I just hope I don't have to take anyone to Time Square...ever....again.

Today Chinatown won my heart.

I was sitting in a lovely vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown near the door, looking out a large window in front of me out to the amazing New York evening. This small dog who had gotten off his leash ran excitedly by and the owner ran after it trying to step on the leash. They ran out of site and one second later I heard screams, a horrible noise, and more screaming. The street in front of the restaurant was insanely busy with rush hour traffic and the little dog ran out in the street and was run over. I sat there waiting for the owner to walk back by the window holding the dog but nothing. The lady who worked at the restaurant had gone out to see what happened and came back in a moment later and just said, "Dog is dead." Seriously upsetting. It was, of course, sad for the owner because he was also holding stuffed animals and toys so I'm sure the dog was a family dog. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to walk back to his family holding the dead dog in a box, with blood on his face, and tell them what had happened.

On a more positive note, New York is amazing right now. You can feel the seasons switching over and am actually getting a little excited about it getting colder. It should be an adventure (hopefully filled with sleds and snow ball fights). I'm enjoying working as a TA and am pretty excited about the current stuff I'm working on. Our apartment has only one person sleeping in our living room and coming home has been much more pleasant now that everything is spic and span.

Everyone should take a day and explore Chinatown. That place is full of so much amazing trinkets, fish (both dried and fleshy), odd smells and funny people, extreeeeemely excited old men selling bonsai trees, these very strange rice cakes which are vegan and delicious, and hundreds of people hoping to take you to a back ally and sell you designer items at a bargain price (not shady at all).

Tonight I'm fighting a cold by watching movies and cuddling under my squishy blankets. Tea might make an appearance and Oreos have been eaten.

Tis the season for blogging.

Today I went to Bowery Tattoo to just meet this lovely fellow, Miles. I ended up making an appointment for October 4th at 1:00. This will mark losing my tattoo virginity. I was so nervous just standing in Miles' little area so I can't imagine how my stomach and body and head will deal with the next few weeks anticipating finally doing what I've been talking about doing for almost 8 years.

This weekend consisted of many fun things, fun nights, and fun people. I lugged some heavy photographic equipment out to Long Island yesterday were I met three very sweet girls who were kind enough to drive me around and let me take their picture. They treated me like we have been friends for years and were up for whatever I suggested. I'm looking forward to going out there again and hopefully getting better pictures then I took yesterday. I was experiencing technical difficulties and laps in concentration that will hopefully be part of a short learning curve in location lighting.

I am already slightly behind in my online class and should definitely be working on that rather then playing on blogspot, flickr, myspace, and whatever other random site I have been rummaging through. I do not like Broken Social Scene, I miss my Kims, and am going to have to go shopping for some sort of wedding-appropriate attire that also covers tattoos in progress. Tessa, I need the blue dress.

Either my eyes are rejecting my contacts or my allergies are owning my life today. Speaking of owning my life....the new iTunes is been the object of my attention for every spare moment I've had at home. Suddenly I need to organize my music way more than it already was. Ok....BEAUTY NOW!

I'm hung up on you.

So I spent all day yesterday and much of today fixing my crappy site. Now it's only mildly crappy. Take a gander.

Long live MacKaye.

(an excerpt from an interview with Ian MacKaye in last month's Satya)

"Someone recently asked me, 'Are you still living this straight edge lifestyle?' It is a reflection of the perversity of this culture that it would be conventional to think that not putting toxins into your body would somehow be a lifestyle, when in fact, that's life.

...When people ask me about my diet, 'Why don't you eat meat?' the response is always, 'Why not? Why should I?' I can think of a hundred reasons why I don't. I'd eat a piece of meat just as soon as I'd eat a piece of shit."

Noah Kalina

This guy my roommates are friends with did a project where he photographed himself everyday for six years and made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B26asyGKDo&mode=related&search=

It was on Good Morning America and has had like one and a half million views in three days. I like it but the comments the Good Morning America people had were laaaaaaaame. "Now he can count the girlfriends he's had and the apartments he's lived in." Is that something people usually forget? Blah. His girlfriend did the music.

He's a photographer in Brooklyn...here's his site http://www.noahkalina.com/

My fortune.

"A beautiful, smart, and loving person will be coming into you life."
